John Scott Haldane (February 2, 1868 – October 1, 1952) was a British geneticist and statistician. He is known for his work on the use of regression analysis to model complex situations, for the introduction of the concept of likelihood in statistical inference, and for his development of the Monte Carlo method. Haldane's work on covariance in genetics inspired W. D. Hamilton to develop his version of quantitative genetics. Haldane is also notable for his role in the development of Theodosius Dobzhansky's population genetics theory. He is also known for being one of the founders of the school of biometry .
